With the new 480 receiving positive reviews, Steve Harper penned a series of more sporting 2+2 open top versions of the car to prompt a reaction from the Marketing Department.

Similarly sketches were also produced for an even more sporting short wheelbase 2 seat version.

A model was built late from Steve’s design in 1985, from which a Concept Car was developed by Cor Steenstra, after Steve Harper left the company in mid 1986.

An open top Volvo was something of an enigma to the safety conscious Swedish management, so the integrated Roll-bar design was included to satisfy their concerns.

One of the remaining prototypes now stands in the Volvo Museum in Goteborg.
