1983 ROVER AR16
AR16 was another Austin-Rover Canley design studio study which was full of good intent.
The Rover / Honda XX platform was capable of being adapted for a shorter vehicle, and so the AR16 was seen to be a possible replacement for the Montego/Ambassador saloons.
The ex Longbridge ‘Austin’ designers felt that the 5 door car should carry the Austin marque, and further to that, there were even Coupe derivative sketches, tape drawing and ‘skeleton’ proportion model produced during 1993.
