Autolatina - Ford Brasil
In 1993, SHADO was engaged at the Autolatina Design Facility in Sao Paulo, Brasil, where the VW & FORD design teams worked on creating unique cars off each others platforms. At that the time VW produced the B5 Santana model, and sketches were produced for a Ford derivative over the platform.
Sketches and a clay model were also created of a Ford derivative small car, based upon the local Gol platform. The engine packaging created a strange proportion which was difficult to disguise, and so the Ford management grew unhappy with the ‘shared’ platform restrictions.
The Autolatina partnership was dismantled a year later, as Ford moved the Ka to Brasil for local production, rather than use the Gol based alternative.
