Ford Galaxy (VX62)

In July 1987, having completed the design for the Escort Van, FORD Design asked that Steve Harper join a new design team in a secret location.

It was so secretive that only the highest level of both VW & FORD knew of the projects existence. The location was the Volke modelling studios in Wolfsburg Germany.

There, together with VW designer Peter Knapp, Ford’s Paul Coucill and Steve Harper they began the VX62 project, which later became the Galaxy / Sharan mpv. From sketches, tape drawings and 4 alternative 1:2,5 scale clay models, which were refined in the scale windtunnel, Steve Harper’s model was chosen at the first review in September 87.

A full size clay model was machined at MGA Developments, in the February of 1988, from the chosen design, and returned to VW-Ford for the later design development work.
