Icon Estate C195
The Ford Icon was a sedan version of the BE13 Ford Fiesta, produced by Ford of India.
In late 1998, the product management saw the potential to develop a 7 seat estate car from the sedan base car, and commissioned SHADO to produce a series of designs, in conjunction with the UK engineering consultancy CAD Ltd.
The design was then developed, engineered and a resin model produced from the cad surface data. This model was painted and dressed and presented at the Ford Design Studio in Dunton UK in March 1999.
Once in full size however, the packaging of the vehicle clearly showed an issue. The package for the 3rd row of seats, set above the rear load floor, and specified to be able to seat a 95%tile male, with turban, created a very odd rear view proportion.
Several attempts were made to rebalance the height issue, but to no avail, and the project was cancelled shortly afterwards.
