Autopia Car
Previously, the Disney Theme Park driving rides had used vehicles which designed to represent a car of the future. The only problem was that they quickly became outdated.
During the middle of 1990, for the Discoveryland at the Paris Resort, the Imagineering brief was changed. The theme for the attraction would reflect how in 1950's USA, during automotive culture’s Golden Age, a car of the future would look from that perspective.
By using research into the period’s Concept & Show cars, a design was developed from the theme board. Firstly as a series of sketches, then as a full size clay model; from which tooling was taken. From this basic shape, other stylised elements were designed to be added to create a wide variety of vehicle themes.
